Our world is made for multi-taskers. The trade off for devotion to our career/children/education/keeping fit is that we are often pushing our physical body to work through fatigue, maintain less than ideal postures for long periods and to respond to our mental stress.

It’s a lot for our musculoskeletal system to deal with. In order for us to push through we have developed a sense of disconnect with our bodies. It’s like we are not paying attention anymore.

A common complaint – “I hold all my tension in my shoulders”

Absolutely – and you are only noticing the tension now because it has built up to the point you can no longer ignore it. But what if you could sense the tension, and release it, before you became symptomatic?

So it’s time to take a listen to what our body is up to.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR)

A fantastic way to build body awareness to develop a sense of ‘tight’ and ‘relaxed’ is with PMR. It involves sequentially tensing and releasing groups of muscles. Once you have mastered it, you will find it much easier to consciously release muscle tension throughout the day.

It is easiest to start alone, laying down in a quiet space where you will not be disturbed.
